The FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” and work together to build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against competitors.

Why robotics?                

  • Participants are 2x more likely to show an increase in STEM-related attitudes and interests.
  • 81% of FIRST robotics participants declare a major in STEM by their fourth year of college.
  • Female robotics participants are 2.6x more likely to take engineering courses, and 3.4x more likely to take computer science courses.

How to Help             

  • Volunteer your time to mentor or coach a team a few hours a month.
  • Provide financial support for teams. Start up costs are $825 and go up to $2,022 per team
