Combine history, language arts, and STEM in this cross-curricular lesson for fifth and eighth graders.

Materials

After studying the Civil War, read the book Silent Witness. Students then come up with another object or item that witnessed an important event during the war. Students will complete a writing prompt of what the item witnessed.  They will then use Tinkercad to create a replica of the item to be 3D printed.

Possible Applicable Science Standards:
Seed 5.2 – Discuss the changes that occurred with the filament as it was on the spool, and how it transferred with heat through the 3D printer and created a physical change even though heat was involved it was not a chemical change.
