Explore and build a windmill using Newton’s third law and the story, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”  by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. There are three ways you can enjoy this story,  Full Edition, Young Readers Edition, and Picture Book Edition.

There are also multiple ways to approach this lesson depending on the grade level and time. It can be taught as a unit with older students where they read either the full edition or the young readers edition then design and build a windmill over the period of weeks. This method would use the attached lesson, planning sheet, and this video for a way to build a windmill.

Another way would be to teach it in 1-3 lessons or to younger students by reading the picture book and register for the Renewable Energy STEM in Motion Curriculum kit or buy a KidWind Turbine Kit and use the lessons from the curriculum kit.
