Lab: Engineer Yeast to Fluoresce

Sarah Broadbent

Title
Lesson Description

Genetic Engineering involves modifying an organism’s DNA to deliberately change an aspect of the organism for a particular purpose. Using the kit from ODIN you can demonstrate to your students the power and simplicity of genetic engineering by adding plasmid DNA to yeast so that it turns a fluorescent green color from the expression of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP).

Use the kit, https://www.the-odin.com/bacterial-crispr-and-fluorescent-yeast-combo-kit/ and the attached lesson document to conduct this experiment with your biology class.
